Not energy efficient and overrated.
Having owned portable dishwashers for over 40 years, we are disappointed with the Whirlpool. Usually Whirlpool is tops. Given that this Whirlpool was the most expensive portable and had high ratings, we bought it. It was not a good buy.
The capacity of the dish trays is limited. It is hard to fit cereal and other bowls in the racks. It is a weird setup. You think you have extra capacity because the silverware tray fits into a slot in the door, thus leaving more rack space. But when the silverware tray is in the door, the silverware does not get clean so you end up putting it in the front of the rack.
Compared to our old Maytag, it had at least a 1/3 more capacity than the Whirlpool using less space. It was easier to load because of the way the racks were designed. There were two rows in which glasses could be placed. The Whirlpool has none because of its configuration.
Moreover, it takes an extra cycle to get the dishes clean so you use more water and more electricity. Thus, not only is the Whirlpool more costly to use, it is not energy efficient nor environmentally friendly.
On the plus side, the controls are very easy to use and there are more cycles than we are used to. The silverware tray does open up on one side which makes it easier to unload. And it is quieter than any other dishwasher we have had.
