No quite instant, but not bad

I got these bulbs (came in a 2-pack from Lowes) for 2 reasons.

1. They are smaller than normal CFL's of the same wattage

2. They claimed to be "Instant-on"

The size part worked great since I was putting them into a vanity light and I didn't want to see the bulb poking out past the glass shade.

My main beef with CFL's to-date is the amount of time it takes them to charge up and get to full brightness, hence I was attracted to the Instant-On feature. In relation to other CFL's I've tried, it's great. But, I still wouldn't say your instantly getting 100% brightness. I'd say you get an instant 85% then wait a few seconds for it to get to full brightness. Either way, it's good enough to make me want to replace other high on/off use areas with Sylvania Instant-On bulbs (not all Sylvanias are Instant-On).
