This is a terrific hat for children to wear while outside ( where they ought to be more of the time!). I use these hats for the kids in my preschool because the wide brim gives maximum coverage to face , cheeks, neck and ears. The chin strap helps keep the hat on on windy days and also when kids run, it does not go flying. If it comes off, it hangs to the back of the child's body and doesn't go sailing down the hillside. The break-away strap is good for younger kids and for older kids whose parents are worried about any possibility of getting caught on something. The side vents allow some ventilation but,as with any hat, it is not enough on a hot day. It is better then nothing. It is not a great hat if you want to be taking pictures of a child with the hat on as the brim tends to obscure the little face often. But as a hat that offers UV protection, I give it a two thumbs up.
