This wagon, or its twin the Toyota Matrix, is an excellent alternative to the SUV. While I would avoid towing, the Vibe has a very versatile interior. The back seats, divided 40/60, fold completely down for storage. Is the item long? The front passenger seat folds down too. Storage compartments, tie-down hooks, and small rails make the loading of a variety of objects simple. Seating is comfortable for many people; both front and back seats accommodate tall people. Unlike the Prius, which has a slanting back glass, albeit to enhance fuel economy, the Vibe has a squared-off rear that makes loading non-triangular objects easier.
The car has a small four-cylinder engine with adequate power. In a mixed driving environment with my automatic transmission, I generally get 28-31 MPG with little effort. Reliability so far has been superb.
