Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Automatic Dishwashing Liquid

Maybe a product's performance and value should be the most important aspect of a review, but I will save that for later and discuss the smell up front because for me it is the defining attribute of this product.  Thinking back on my past review of other products, I've noticed I comment on scents quite frequently.  I am fairly sensitive to smells, enough that there are certain perfumes or colognes that will give me an almost instant headache.  My husband, who is much less sensitive than I, agrees that the scent of this dishwashing liquid is over the top. 

We will finish the bottle that we are using, but will not buy a second bottle.  When the dishwasher finishes running these days, we will often leave it open for 20 to 30 minutes to let the odor dissipate.  Even then, you can smell the Lemon Verbena scent clinging to your "clean" plates!  It's not a particularly appetizing smell, by the way.  In the store we checked out all four options, and thought that the Lemon would be the least flowery, perfumey smelling.  Even so, it is more than we can handle, and also turns us off the whole line of products since there are no unscented options.  I know that's kind of their thing, "cleaning + aromatherapy", we just never expected it to be so strong or to remain on surfaces after rinsing.

Performance-wise, it works fairly well, I have noticed a few glasses with some crummy residue dried inside.  Our dishwasher is not the best and tends to leave a some spots here and there, but this soap is definitely leaving more food behind that the EcoVer tablets we were using.  However, even if it were the best dishwashing liquid I had ever used, I would not purchase another bottle because we just can't stand the smell.
