reviewed January 8, 2009 at 5:04 pm My mom actually bought me a beautiful set of Mr. Ellie Pooh stationary for Christmas last year when she went to the Green Festival. I hadn't been writing many letters at the time, so it mostly sat on the shelf...but I've written a number of letters in the past six months - all on elephant pooh paper! And I am a huge fan, myself.
The paper comes in lots of different colors and sets (mine is kind of tan-colored...but I have seen sets with lovely purple and orange paper). It's got a nice soft texture but it's not thin and doesn't tear through even if your pen tip is a bit rough. It's really very pretty and mine came in a cool little cloth case.
There are only two drawbacks which aren't really a big deal. 1) You can't lick and stick the envelope - that's right, you need to bust out your glue stick...or tape...but I think glue works better.
2) Some people *ahem ahem* are a little weirded out when you tell them you're writing love letters on elephant dung. Take my 13 year old sister. She spent two weeks at camp this summer. And all campers like getting mail handed to them at dinner time. Well...she wrote me back and her first sentence was, "Elephant POO?! EWWW!" Yes, a very 13 year old reaction, I know.
The first time I told the boyfriend about the stationary, he gave me a bit of a quizzical look. But a few letters later...he most recently told me that he never expected to be excited by the sight of elephant pooh paper. :-) I think it has to do entirely with the awesomeness of Mr. Ellie Pooh.
In any case, it's great stationary. It's really the ultimate form of upcycling (kind of like TerraCycle worm poop). And who doesn't like getting mail?
