Pros: lower sugar, real fruit

Cons: not super tasty
Purchase Date:October 2008
Better than a fruit roll up
Deej reviewed October 6, 2008 at 3:16 pm

Just had my first Fruitabu organic smooshed fruit.

It's pretty good stuff actually. I love that it's all real fruit (actually it's a half of a fruit serving for your 5 a day!)

If I had kids (which I don't) I would 100% serve them these over a fruit rollup without question. No additional sugar, organic fruit and tastes pretty good. It's not exactly candy, but if you weren't raised with candy, then it's pretty close

Pros: Organic, natural, made with real fruit

Cons: Really, really sticky
I suppose it's a decent alternative to traditional "fruit" snacks

In full disclosure, I've only had one of these...I got a sample for free at the SF Green Festival (I think) last year.  And I haven't eaten fruit snacks or fruit roll-ups since I was a kid...so perhaps my memory of how delicious (albeit chemically enhanced) those were.  But I sure did love them.

In any case, FruitaBu is interesting.  I like the premise certainly...a reasonably healthy alternative to those fake fruit snacks, made with real fruit, organic, natural, no added sugar, gluten-free, made in the US.  All that jazz.  Yeah, I like all that.

But goodness gracious.  I tasted it but I couldn't eat the whole roll.  I found it to be just too sweet for me, but beyond that, it was just SO sticky.  I could hardly get it off the paper thing.  And once I did, I could hardly get it off my fingers!  In any case, it did not make for easy grown-up sampling.  Perhaps kids might dig the stickiness...but it sure wasn't for me.  And I have to admit...I did compost the rest of it.  Wasteful, I know.  But I just couldn't hack it.

Five stars for effort.  Not so many stars for the rest....sorry, folks.
