Many water-saving showerheads are low flow but not particularly water efficient. This Oxygenics SkinCare Showerhead is exceptionally water efficient and it is also self-pressurizing.

Good Low Flow Showerhead
Regulator reviewed April 7, 2008 at 6:28 pm

This is the first and only low flow showerhead I have used so I'm afraid that I don't have much to compare it to. Hopefully there is still some useful info here.

We chose to purchase this showerhead because of it's low 1.5 gpm and ability to "automatically adapt to low and variable water pressure it can deliver a great shower whether the water pressure is 20 psi (pounds per square inch) or 100 psi." Other (less expensive) low flow showerheads I looked at seemed to specify a specific psi level (usually 80 psi) they were designed to work at. At the time of purchase I was living in an apartment complex that didn't have the greatest water pressure and thought that since this was advertised to work in both low and high water pressure that it would be a better buy. So far I have not had any water pressure issues in my old apartment or my new house (which I believe to have significantly better water pressure.

It was a bit of an adjustment at first because the water output is a bit more like a spray than your typical non-low flow showerhead but after a day or two I didn't notice the difference. We could immediately tell that we were using far less water just in the amount of excess water that builds up on the floor of the tub during a typical shower. Due to the spray like output, it tends to be a bit noisier than a typical showerhead which my wife findings annoying although she tends to be more sensitive to noise than I am.

One curious property of this showerhead is that if you point it as far down or up as it will go the water will focus and shoot out with great force in what I have deemed "laser mode." I do not think this is an intentional feature but I love it. It's almost like a fancy massaging showerhead.

Overall we have been very pleased with it although I am looking forward to eventually experimenting with a different low flow showerhead in our second bathroom.
