reviewed April 27, 2009 at 9:38 am I was given a Zetalux to test out and to be honest, I completely forgot about it. Stins asked me the other day, "Deej - can I get that Zetalux back?" to which I responded, "I don't have it."
Little did I know that it had been powering my living room lighting for the past month+
I always complained that the CFLs I got (from Ikea) took WAY too long to warm up and I knew that I replaced one of the lamp's bulb to see if I could do better. What I didn't remember is that I had replaced it with the Zetalux. When you're setting switching technologies to provide something as basic as light in a room, to not realize the difference is a huge deal. The quality of the light is great, there's no warm up time, and it's absolutely sipping power (7W)

reviewed December 5, 2008 at 12:28 pm The ZetaLux is an impressive bulb. First of all, it just seems massive...it's not really, but the first time I pulled it out of the box, it struck me as significantly larger than your standard incandescent or compact fluorescent. It is a bit bigger but it fit just fine in my bedside lamp (and of course, it's really easy to use given that it has a standard medium base).
The first time I switched on the bulb, I was surprised at all the bright light. I believe my exclamation was, "Whoa!" Compared to the EvoLux, it's not quite as bright, but for a bedside lamp it provides more than enough light.
It's still more directional than an incandescent light bulb (EarthLED calls this "no wasted light") so that's something that takes getting used to (but I stopped noticing after the first two days). It's not as directional as the EvoLux, so when it's housed in a lampshade with an open top, you still get a decent bit of light coming out of the top, but you get more diffuse light coming off the sides (if that makes sense).
Color temp wise, I have the 3000K temperature which is technically warm white. It's definitely not as warm as an incandescent that falls closer to 2700K, but it's not hospital white bad.
I think the best thing about the bulb is (clearly) that it's incredibly efficient, and while the EvoLux has a bit of a hum, this one doesn't at all. It stays cool to the touch no matter how long it's been on. Compared to other LED's, $50 seems reasonable, especially for 50,000+ life hours. I might prefer to have this bulb in a directed reading light or even still, a downlight. But overall, I'm very pleased.
