best option for ceiling fan

I want to buy a couple ceiling fans and have had a very hard time finding anything that I think is eco-friendly enough. Any suggestions/recommendations?

Just to clarify, this is my ideal product which I don't think exists, so at this point I'll settle for any of these categories paired with energy star.

-energy star at a minimum, but the lowest energy consumption possible

-made from recycled or at least sustainable materials for the metal, blade and/or glass shades

-uses LED lights (I don't think this exists, but I can buy some pricey LED lights to fit standard sockets, but have heard they aren't good for full room light. Anyone tried using a couple of them in the ceiling fan light?)

-Zero VOC (not sure if this is an issue, but guessing the blades are veneer wood over particle board)

Hi there,

It seems you're looking for a flat-bladed ceiling fan. This one seems pretty special. If you're looking for a good bathroom fan though, check out the Panasonic Whispergreen.

Both are pretty efficient :) Wouldn't it be great also if companies also used recycled content materials etc? Let me know if you find any.

Ceiling fans are eco-groovy because they allow you to be more comfortable with less engery input from air conditioning and heating systems.  There is no shortcut on the use of the fan, and pretty much all use an AC powered induction motor to turn the blades.  Still a good trade-off for household heating and cooling, especially if you get some power from solar.  The use of low wattage lighting is available.  The half-assed way is to use compact flourescent bulbs instead of incandesents.  Some people are concerned about the trace toxic metals (Hg) in such fixtures.  You could buy this LED lit ceiling fan at home depot.  LEDs  and fixtures are available, but you have to transform the voltage to DC and that makes things more expensive.  Keep looking, google is your friend.
