I recently read an article in my Mothering Magazine called the Long Good-bye to Toxic Toys. It opened my eyes to something I didn't even know very much about...Phthalates. I always assumed "toxic" toys referred to the ones w/ lead paint.
Anyways, after reading the article I looked around at what is clearly a Fisher Price household from the glider, jump-a-roo, bouncer, swing, high-chair to a huge number of toys that my daughter plays with. So then I was left thinking that my daughters toys were possibly toxic. But, from the research I have done, I came to find out that Fisher Price discontinued the use of Phthalates in all of their toys intended for children 3 and under. So far all of the stuff we own is only for 3 and under.
So, am I to assume that all of her toys are safe then? I'm not really sure. Eventually I would love to see more natural (and naturally made) toys thrown into the mix, but we will have to wait for another birthday to roll around and hopefully tell friends and family what is on DD's "wish list". Because we certainly can't toss everything she currently has and start from scratch with all new, natural toys. Those things are expensive!
