I award full points for a lot of their great, noble efforts. I just thought it was funny when I walked past their office in SF today and saw this:

"Thank you for Saving Energy" says the totally unnecessary, floating plasma TV...

Hah wow.  You would think if they really wanted to encourage/thank people about saving energy, they could have just put a poster in the window.  This definitely falls in the "what were they thinking?" category.

Hi, this is Peter Liu, founder of New Resource Bank.  A friend mentioned this thread and I thought I help provide some answers.

In fact, it's kind of funny that last week, when we hosted the San Francisco Mayor's Task Force on Existing Building Efficiency, a member of the SF Environment team also commented about our display signage. He noticed that we were using EnergyStar LCD displays instead of Plasma, which consumes much less energy.  With the EnergyStar 3.0 rating, each of these displays uses the same amount of energy as about one light bulb.  The more conventional backlit signage would use more energy and we can't change the content unless we expend additional resources to change the plastic "face" of the display.

Our LEED-Gold certified office has many other energy and resource saving features like advance lighting, efficient HVAC and even a smart toilet.  We use nearly 40% less energy than required by the very stringent Title 24 California Building Code.

As we do our banking, we're also in touch with companies that may advance display energy efficiency even further.  One company is looking at "printing" nano-display layers on glass so a display could be powered with a fraction of the energy compared to today's technology (they even talked about wearable displays)!  If you see someone with a moving pictures New Resource Bank T-shirts a few years from now, it might be me being the tech geek that I am.

Come and bank with us rather than a huge multinational bank with very different priorities. Invest your funds in your local sustainable community!

Madoff had different priorities as well - you have to say more than just that we are different!

Banking is a money making business - can be very good money which is fine for you. What is in it for your customer?
