Looks like the economic troubles hitting the nation haven't spared our friends at Tesla Motors. They announced today that
- They are going to lay off some staff (no word on how many yet)
- Elon Musk, Chairman of the Board, will become CEO. Ze’ev Drori looks like he is basically out, although he nominally retains some sort of position as a vice-chairman on the board of directors.
- The Model-S (the sedan) has been delayed so they can focus on the Roadster and their drivetrain business
- They're closing the Rochester Hills, MI engineering facility will close. Sounds like some of the jobs may come out to the Bay Area; the rest will probably account for the aforementioned layoffs.
Probably necessary to do in tough times, but not great news. SFGate has more.
