Why are you going green?  What's your motivation/top reason/take home?

You're allowed to list more than one reason, just so you know.

[Disclaimer: Yes, so these are usually debates.  And yes, this is something of a repeat from the user profiles.  But I thought it might be interesting to have a discussion about motivations...]

Mainly the threat of global warming.  But also the general fact that we depend on our environment and aren't treating it very well, to say the least.

For the general care of the environment and health related issues for us and our children. That is to say, for long-term issues of stewardship, not for any perceived short term threats.

1- I feel that there is a moral obligation to not trash the place- making decisions to tread more lightly affects our own quality of life, that of those around us, and for future generations.

2- I try to choose organic food and non-chemical laden products because of the above, and also because I believe it is a much healthier choice.

3- Reusable things and saving water/energy saves money!

It's all about respect and mutual consideration for me to the environment. We as humans  take too far advantage of the earth's resources.

As far as pollutions concerned and more people going green..I think this was a long time coming. Between processed, fake, contaminated, genetically enhanced, parasitic foods...I think now we said enough. Lets go back to what it should have been. And polluting the ozone, again, lets go back to natural, the earth is saying enough already!

Its takes a very large impact for society to WAKE UP.

Its all about the money as well.!!

On my profile I say "because it's insane not to" because I wanted to keep it short and sweet. But really, it's a matter of respect for me. At least that's how it started. That was my motto since I was little: "respect the earth and others". Of course I am not sure I always knew how to do that, but that's another story.

I grew up in a household that had green habits long before the term appeared and long before it was fashionable. We grew our own food (with a tad of fertilizer but still...) and it tasted so much better than commercial stuff. We hang dried our clothes, and the list goes on... For a long time I was not that consious about it, except when it came to garbage. I just hated it and always tried to keep my space clean and not dump my crap everywhere.

To be honest though, I REALLY started going green when I had no option. That was when I  came to the U.S. and I was confronted with the insane consumption and waste of energy, the tasteless food loaded with sugars and fat (nope, it didn't taste like home) and my sudden intolerance to chemicals. At first I just didn't clean any more, my husband did it and I left the room. Then I discovered that I can clean more effectively with homemade cleaners so I threw out everything chemical we had and started fresh. Every time I went home I tasted what "real" food tasted like and decided to go organic as much as possible. The rest is history...

there are so many reasons, too many to list. But I have never came across a reason not to, so that has to say something also

Because I have been using the 3 'R' concept for many years- especially Recycle!  Going through the "Ecology" movement in the 1980s was so similar to todays 'Green' movement.  So using almost the same  concept is an easy transformation for me; from envelope and Geodesic Domes to sealed and efficient homes or transportation.

One other reason for going 'green' is that I cannot stand pink polka dots!
