On my profile I say "because it's insane not to" because I wanted to keep it short and sweet. But really, it's a matter of respect for me. At least that's how it started. That was my motto since I was little: "respect the earth and others". Of course I am not sure I always knew how to do that, but that's another story.
I grew up in a household that had green habits long before the term appeared and long before it was fashionable. We grew our own food (with a tad of fertilizer but still...) and it tasted so much better than commercial stuff. We hang dried our clothes, and the list goes on... For a long time I was not that consious about it, except when it came to garbage. I just hated it and always tried to keep my space clean and not dump my crap everywhere.
To be honest though, I REALLY started going green when I had no option. That was when I came to the U.S. and I was confronted with the insane consumption and waste of energy, the tasteless food loaded with sugars and fat (nope, it didn't taste like home) and my sudden intolerance to chemicals. At first I just didn't clean any more, my husband did it and I left the room. Then I discovered that I can clean more effectively with homemade cleaners so I threw out everything chemical we had and started fresh. Every time I went home I tasted what "real" food tasted like and decided to go organic as much as possible. The rest is history...
