Yesterday, Tesla held its second town hall meeting (the first happened back on December 12, 2007). Basically, the town halls are conference calls with various folks from the management team and customers. In yesterday's meeting, Elon Musk opened with some comments about Tesla:
“Our commitment to the sedan, code named WhiteStar, is absolute. So going beyond the Roadster…I wanted to emphasize the fact that those of our customers that have bought roadsters, what you’re really doing is buying more than just a sports car. You’re actually helping fund the development of vehicles beyond that. So you’re doing a greater good than just the purchase of the car.” [the elipses are where I couldn't quite understand what he said]
JB Straubel (CTO) also gave a run down of DriveTrain 1.5. He reported that they are testing motor cooling systems and should have it ironed out within the next few months (but that they are not going to change anything unless absolutely necessary...as to not delay the production date). They also talked about the transmission (the new transmission has no clutch mechanism).
Elon also said that "what is necessary for the electric car revolution" is "a compelling product at a compelling price." He noted the Fetish is not that product.
Customers on the call asked a variety of questions about range, investing in the company, etc.
