Has anyone seen this LED bulb?

Hm...that's interesting. I hadn't heard about that bulb before.
The Line Lite website doesn't mention anything by the name EcoDim, however. They have a whole product line of LEDs and two called EcoLED...but it doesn't look like either of those are dimmable.
I just emailed them, so we'll see if I get anything back.
Seems like something we would have caught wind of...a lot of people have been clamoring for dimmable LEDs, so this would be awesome. Keep us posted please

Looks like Brilliance LED is based in Shenzhen in China. Their company profile says:

I don't quite understand the relationship between Brilliance and Line Lite, but I guess we'll see what happens when Linda emails me the specs.
If it's dimmable from 0%-100% - that would be awsome. Looking forward to any developements on this...
By the way, they aren't the only ones with dimmable LED bulbs. I would be hesitant about the whole 50,000 hours, as well. How do I know? Well, I am manufacturing dimmable LED bulbs. And I know from the information on the Press Release, they are doing it wrong and will shorten the life expectancy of the driver. The chips may last 50000 hours but just like fluorescent technology, the ballast or driver will most often fail before the actual lamp.

Can you provide any estimates for how much shorter the life expectancy would be? I know for me, 5.7 years of constant light is more than I would expect regardless, but I definitely don't want to be paying a premium for these bulbs and swapping them out all the time as well.

I have little information on their components. However, I would expect as manufacturing goes. The lower the cost on the bulbs, the more likely the failure rate will increase unless they are gouging the consumer. With many projects I have worked on, there have been LED lamps that have had major premature failure rates. A major blow to operating expenses. One particular project had over 100 bulbs at a cost of $115 apiece. 5 months later, a 50% failure rate is devastating to maintenance. So don't assume that because you are paying a premium you will get quality in this industry. You must test and feel confident in your manufacturer. And just because it is sold in Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Home Depot, it doesn't mean it offers quality protection. Or because it has the name of one of the big three ( GE, Philips, or Sylvania) They know consumables and cost. They have been in the business of low cost rapid replacement products for decades. They are not in the business of production, they are in the business of consumer demand. Not having invested in R&D over the last 10 years in Solid State Lighting has left them scrambling for product.
Final word. Be cautious and test!

One of my EarthLED bulbs has been returned due to premature failure (EX-38) bulb - a PAR38 style. They are sending me a new one soon - they have rec'd my old one and confirmed the failure of one of the internal rings of LEDs. The company has so far handled the exchanged professionally - however I have not rec'd the replacement bulb as of yet... anyway - just sorta an FYI, these bulbs can fail - this one was about 4.5 months old.
I have an EarthLED bulb in my desk light, its prety sweet :)

EarthLED's customer service dept has been very helpful and is letting me get a CL-5 (I am paying a small price diff) instead of waiting for the back-ordered EX-38. ...so even tho the bulb failed in under 5 months, their customer service was there to handle the situation.
...sry a little off-topic - but basically had to give 'kudos' to EarthLEDs service under the circumstances. :-)

That's great that they were responsive. Really important I think when you're dealing with consumer goods and a product that doesn't have super wide adoption yet. AND when LEDs have sucha significant up front cost compared to other light bulbs.

Just an update on the Ecodim LED light bulbs...
I got an email today from the international sales rep for Brilliance Technologies. It didn't actually have any information about the bulbs, but it had three pictures! Here they are:
So, we have a pic of the bulb itself... and then two pics of what may be low and high by way of a dimmer switch? The background lighting is not consistent, however that could be a camera's reaction to the primary light source being the bulbs so bright. ...or not. Hopefully you will get some data to explain the pics soon as well :-)
What we do know is that there is apparantly some sort of bulb, presumably an LED based bulb, and it can produce light ... LOL
By the way - as a follow-up on the CL-5 from EarthLED earlier in this thread: Rec'd and have been using in a couple locations. All warm white variety...
1) Daughter's desk light. She uses it almost every day, likes it way better than the CL-3 she was previously using, and is OK going forward using it. Woot!
2) My garage workbench. I hooked up two in reflective shop lights (typical clamp on style) above the bench. I also have them powered through a power strip that provides some surge protection and a single switch option. Is working great - plently of light.
So I just got a PDF about the EcoDim bulbs from the sales rep. I added the bulk of the information to the product page I created for the EcoDim. Originally, celticsolar posted that the bulb supposedly dimmed smoothly from 0% to 100%. On the spec sheet, it says the dimming range is from 10% to 100%.
It also says one of the typical applications is "sustainable energy" which I found a little funny.
I also asked Linda (the sales rep) about purchasing the bulbs. It seems that they can be ordered directly from Brilliance Technologies.

Good evening. It's very simple for ordering lamps from us. At first, you told us what items do you want to order, then we will make the PI(proforma invoice) and send it to you. You sign the PI and send the signed PI to us. When we get your approved PI, we will prepare the raw material of the products and you should transfer the payment according to the PI. When we receive the money, we will start to produce the products and then send them to you when they are ready.

So basically, you order the bulbs directly from Brilliance LED. I emailed Linda to find out how much they cost. This is what she told me:

I found an excellent and up to date description on LEDinsider's blog of which LED bulbs are dimmable and how to dim them if you want to adapt regular LED lights to be dimmable here's the link to the specific post. THe blogger had conversations with the people at Cree so they got it from the horse's mouth about dimming LEDs.
The prices quoted by Linda was that for the 4W or the 8W versions? If it is for the 8W version I think it is a good price.

I want to say that the prices she quoted were for the 4W bulb as that was the one discussed earlier in the email thread I had going with her (meaning, she sent me the spec for the 4W bulb and then I asked about the price and that was her response).
But I just shot her another email to ask about the 8W so I'll let you know what I hear!
