Heat in asphalt roads -> usable energy

Check out this article detailing a new technique for converting the built-up head in asphalt roads into usable energy.  Such a great idea!  Think about how much surface area across the country is asphalt -- great to capture solar energy; its efficiency will result in significantly lower cost per unit of power produced (compared to traditional solar paneling).

Also has the benefit of wicking away heat from roads that would otherwise contribute to the "heat island" effect in densely populated areas where temps rise when buildings/pavement release heat accumulated during the day.

That's good thinking.  I like the idea of directly using the hot water in buildings.  Otherwise you need to divert water to use as the heat carrier, and water is becoming a hot commodity these days (pun intended).
