I'm here at work and a thought occured to me. Pharmacies in general aren't really eco-friendly. The little pill bottles, for the most part, are not able to be recycled. If you take medicine on a routine basis you should take your old bottles into the store with you and ask for the refill to be put in the same bottle. You could also ask for the prescription to be dispensed in the original bottle if it comes in a unit-of-use package size. This may not sound like much of a help on an individual basis but I see hundreds of bottles that end up in the trash each week.
There are state laws to be considered also so don't give the pharmacist a hard time if they are tied by laws. That being said, most of the time they should be happy to do this for you. I know I would.
