What do you think of DISCOVERY’S PLANET GREEN network?

I haven't paid for cable television for some time, so when I heard about a new Cable channel

that would focus on green 24/7, you can just imagine my interest.

After much anticipation and excitement about a channel dedicated to the green movement, I am very disapointed. What should have been a channel with interviews from green pioneers and

companies focusing on eco products, seems to be a commercial nightmare filled with

rich celebrities and fluff. I am extremely outraged at what shows are considered acceptable

for this network. Irrelevant MTV style reality televison geared towards the masses.

We are facing serious problems. Green Planet is a joke right?

So what do you think?

I didn't realize it was up and running.  Looking at it now, it seems like they're filling up a lot of time with this 'Greenovate' show, which seems to be about people making their homes more eco-friendly.  That seems pretty cool.  I see another show called World's Greenest Homes.  Could be good too.

I'll have to check it out sometime, but it seems okay based on the show descriptions.

I have been watching "Green" for the past couple of days on and off. I like the premis of the channel and figure I will give it a couple of weeks to come up with a decent line-up. But for right now...if i see Adrian Grenier sip one more glass of wine...i will turn it off for a month and then see if it has improved.

The two shows I've watched (Greenovate and Wasted) have been decent.  The former about green renovations, the latter about becoming more efficient.

Greenovate had some good suggestions, but there was also a bit of greenwashing.  For example, installing a bidet (good) with a heated seat, air dryer, and warm water (wasteful).  Overall it's a decent show.

Wasteful is getting these guys to stop leaving the lights and TV on for their dog all day, get an energy efficient heating unit, bike instead of taking the cab, etc.  They also dropped from 34 pounds of trash per week (holy crap!) to 12 ounces - impressive.  Seems like a pretty good show.

I actually haven't watched Planet Green at all...but for those of you who have seen both, how does it compare to Sundance Channel's "The Green"?

The concept seemed great but I am disappointed.  The shows don't reach my level (being a "normal" person) like the shows did when the station was Discovery Home.  I am definately a "granola girl" and I'm as "green" as I can be but I am also a single mom and the station, when it was Discovery Home was a valuable resource for me.  Now I feel like saving even more "green" and disconnecting the cable.  I think the shows on Sundance channel are much better.

I still like the station.  When I'm watching TV I'll flip over there to see what's on.  Of course, some of the shows aren't great (like American Chopper building an ethanol powered motorcycle - not interested), but pretty often they've got something interesting on.

I wish you could order cable channels a'la carte. I can't justify the cost for cable when there are only like 5 channels I'd ever want to watch. Probably better for me not to watch so much TV anyway...
