Fog Mountain, owned by Boisset Family Estates, is debuting bottled in a 1L PET bottle. Boisset describes the "revolutionary 1 Liter PET bottle that embraces a modern approach to reduce its carbon footprint while delivering superior convenience and value." They go on to say this represents a step in the "evolution in packaging that reduces wine’s carbon footprint while providing added convenience and value for the wine lover."
But is this really greener? Glass can be recycled...so can plastic. Corks can be recycled....Fog Mountain's screw caps (and other screw caps) can't be recycled. Boisset says their PET bottles reduce the weight of the shipments, thereby reducing the energy consumed in transit and production. In fact...they even say, "PET offers lightweight, 100% recyclable plastic bottles that have an estimated 60% lower carbon footprint than traditional wine bottles." And of course, 7 Fog Mountain bottles could be made into 1 extra-large t-shirt.
Well....whether it be packaged in glass, PET, Tetra Paks, cans, boxes, it's what's inside that counts!

According to the SF Chronicle, Fog Mountain is a good picnic wine: "Dark boysenberry, touched with earthiness on the nose. A fruitier palate that offers some spice and concentration; long finish."
