Jaguar to make an electric car?

I don't really care if you call it Jag-war or Jag-u-ar but either way it's pretty cool that they've announced the development of an electric drop-top two seater in addition to their RE electric sedan.

This is from Wired:

Quote:

Jag is hard at work on the XE roadster, and the word from Conventry is the car could come with an optional range-extended electric drivetrain similar to that of the Chevrolet Volt. The roadster would get an electric motor and a three-cylinder gasoline engine to drive a generator, according to Motor Trend. Apparently it’s just a concept at this point, and Motor Trend says there’s no guarantee an XE-EREV (boy there’s a mouthful) would see production. The XE roadster is expected to debut at the Geneva auto show in 2011.

I read today that Renault is coming out with all electrics to be marketed in 2011. They have a full description on their site.

Not as exciting as a Jag but neat none the less.

That's very cool that both Jag and Renault are working on it.  The more, the merrier I think.

Do you know anything about Renault's eco2 vehicles?  I've poked around just a bit on their renault-eco2.com website but I'd love to know what you think if you've heard of it.

The renault-eco2.com site seems to me to be advertising blurb. (I looked at the UK site - no US option here)

I have no idea what the sailor lady Ellen Macarthur has to do with anything outside of Renault sponsoring her sailing expenses.

I think it would be more impressive if they could say how they compare with other auto manufacturers in different catagories.
