New from National Academies Press on Climate Policy

Like I said a while back, as far as the reality based community is concerned, the science associated with climate change is largely settled.  Following this, you will see a slightly different emphasis on books on climate from the National Academies.  This latest is along those lines, discussing how policy needs should start to drive funding for climate science research (as opposed to the current situation, where scientists themselves tell funding agencies what science gaps should drive funding).  Anyway, the book itself is not all that interesting to a lay person unless you really like policy wonk-speak.  However, I suspect it will be viewed with disdain from the science community since it suggests that science should take a somewhat subservient role to the needs of policymakers.  Personally, I don't violently disagree with these conclusions.

Well I agree that scientists probably won't be happy with policymakers dictating what sort of research needs to be done, but nevertheless, given the current state of the climate and climate science research, it only makes sense.
