Wind Grant Award
May 14, 2009
The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation recently awarded Olympia CUSD 16 a grant of up to $30,000 to conduct a feasibility study for wind resource on the OHMS campus. The district is researching and conducting a study to consider the installation of a wind turbine for conservation of energy and energy costs. The feasibility study is designed to learn if there is a sufficient wind source to support wind energy for the district.
The grant award is for 75% of the cost of the study or up to $30,000 which ever is less. The test tower will collect wind data and submit the data to Western Illinois University for posting on www.illinoiswind.org. This website provides information about wind data to promote wind power development. The grant will provide an exciting opportunity for student research and analysis in the Agriculture and Science Departments at the High School.
