Homemade face mask with cat litter?

I was looking around online for some homemade face mask recipes to maybe try some of my own and add to the Homemade Face Masks article and I came across a recipe on About which calls for cat litter for a homemade clay mask.

Apparently someone claimed that cat litter was made from the same stuff they use in salons for masks...but I for one don't think it would be a great idea to put cat litter on your face.  I mean, lordy.  They must put tons of chemicals and nasties in there to help prevent odor and increase absorption, etc.  That's why they have green cat litter!

To be fair, they do say it should be 100% natural clay litter (which you mix with essential oils and water).  But...

Yikes, I don't know about you ladies, but cat litter sounds a little weird to me.

Well, there are so many yummy ingredients I can use for a face mask... I don't think I will be trying this. Besides, I don't have a cat so I am not going to buy a whole bag of litter for this! LOL

That sounds like an incredibly horrible idea!  All the extra chemicals used in most litters make it especially dangerous to use on your skin.  Most green pet websites advise against using clay litter for your pets, let alone using it on your face.  Just purchase a good natural clay mask (Miessence or Wild Carrot Herbals), or look online for "natural china clay".  Use it alone or mix it with honey for an excellent facial mask.  Leave out the cat litter!

Do they say the cat litter has to be clean?
