It's a downright balmy day in San Francisco! 61 degrees F. And we're exactly one week into spring. So what's your favorite thing about it?
I would have to say...I just love the flowering trees (and all the other flowers too). But man oh man. The flowering cherry trees get me every time.
I would have to say... the temperature! Living in Wisconsin and getting temperatures way below zero for months at a time, it feels so nice to be able to walk around and be more active and just feel the air on my skin without worrying about wind chills!!!
I also wish I had a garden, this is another thing I would love to do now that it's getting warmer... Plant some veggies!
Here in Izmir, Turkey early April is the time for a big change - warmer weather, flowers & flowering trees, the tortise come out of winter hibernation and life becomes nicer all around. The little red poppies of vets day in the US come up all over and illsides are covered with white daisies. Of course bugs also start to show up and things like that as well.
Our next big change is about the first of May when warmer weather marks the start of summer. Everything will stay green until early July when the colors go to gray & brown.
I love the fact that I can wear flip flops! And getting outside is so great. But it makes me antsy to get out of work (which is less good) because it's so beautiful out. I wish you still got spring break even when you are out of school.
growing things. I like the warmer weather, and the promise of summer, I love that I can leave my air off and just open windows and doors and employ a couple fans, it's great to be able to actually do things outside again (I am not a winter person, and it's in missouri you only get a few days of snow, the rest of the time it's just crappy weather and COLD during winter) but my favorite thing is the gardening. I just love being out with my plants :)

What are you growing in your garden these days? I just gave my boyfriend some caper bush seeds to test out in his garden (he LOVES capers)....of course....then we'll have to learn how to pickle them. We've also got some solid snap pea plants which are in the height of their production. They're so tasty!
oh gosh, let me see if I can think of everything :)
right now I've got a tomato garden planted, about 16 plants, plus three more cherry tomato plants in containers on the deck. I've got about 50 ever bearing strawberry plants I need to plant, one june bearing strawberry plant that's already matured planted on the side of the dog house :), probably tomorrow evening get the everbearings in their plot. several carrot plants, lots of kale, a few lettuce plants, one blueberry plant still in container and 1 blackberry plant still in container- plus another blackberry start I just trasfered from the original container to a new one- I haven't gotten things set up to plant those three yet, one red onion plant, one wild onion plant. some chives, peppermint, parsley, rosemary, stevia and lemon balm that are all in containers. i think that's everything for this year food wise.
then we also have 4 rose bushes in containers, 2 tea rose bushes and 2 are starts from my moms house, although I'm not sure one of the starts is going to make it. 20+ sweet williams from gurneys (only ordered 6 but apparently they just throw in a bunch of these and hope at least 6 live, lol- I think at least 6 have green pushing up through the soil so that's cool) 2 stargazer and 6 sterling star lilies (none of these have come up yet) also from gurneys, a couple dozen other perrineals I can't remember the name of right now, 6 shrub bushes I also can't think of the name of, 6 or so trees that are native to missouri but I can't think of what they are but we have 3 different kinds in containers right now, I'm sure there's more I can't think of.
Most of the flowers, trees, shrubs and etc are in containers right now because I have to wait to plant them until after we put up the new siding on the house (so they don't get trampled when we do) and I figure out exactly how I want to landscape.
