Emissions free (electric) ATVs?

The other day I was over at UC Berkeley for a green event and I was lucky enough to chat for a while with some good folks from the San Francisco Electric Vehicle Association and from Plug In America.  We were talking about the future of EVs and how the next few years will be very interesting and exciting.

The president of the SF EVA mentioned that he had recently heard of a company producing electric ATVs.  But that he thought it was pretty funny...because part of the company's sales pitch was talking about how quite the ATVs are so you can sneak up on animals while you're hunting.

Beyond the marketing pitch, what do you guys think?

I just heard an interview with a company like that (probably the same one) on the EVCast this morning.  Bad Boy Buggies right?

Seemed like a pretty cool vehicle - they described it as sort of a golf cart on steroids.  Just a low speed EV that can go on very rough terrain, like over fallen tree trunks and stuff.  Useful for hunters, and can be used in neighborhoods, but not a lot else.

We sell a similar version from Cruise car called the Scout.  I have heard some bad reviews of Bad Boy Buggies in terms of their ability to stand up to the typical Hunter/Outdoorsman expectations.  Ours isn't much better, but they have recently redone the gear ratios to make it have better climbing abilities.  But still, these are for the nicer hunting lodges not necessarily for backwoods, heavy duty trailblazing.

The back seat on this one folds down so you can put equipment or animals on it.

Zap also has the Zap Dude - again, nice toy for groomed trails and flat areas, but not really what your diehard sportsman is going to need in terms of raw power.  The silence is definitely a plus however, if you aren't causing a lot of smog and noise, you really can sneak up on something!

Ah, yes it was indeed Bad Boy Buggies!

Here are a few videos for those interested...the first looks like a generic company ad but the second is a pretty funny tug of war video.

Thanks so much for sharing that!  Zero Motorcycles is definitely doing some exciting stuff.  I'm looking into scheduling a field trip down to their Scotts Valley location.  I'll keep you posted on that.
