It has been confirmed that Zap Xebras, XL Truck, and Shuttle qualify for the tax credit outlined in the Stimulus Act!  10% off the purchase price up to $2500.

Here is the press release:  http://zapworld.com/tax-credit-stimulus

This is really exciting news for them and the dealers, not to mention EV lovers everywhere!

I'm excited, now I definitely want to buy one!!!!

Yeah and it's not just ZAP, but all low-speed, two and three-wheeled EVs.  There are certain criteria - I think their batteries had to be 2.5 kWh capacity or greater, or something along those lines, and as you noted the maximum tax credit is $2500.  Great news for EVs though.

Definitely get one, but check with a tax professional on those federal incentives. You never know what will happen with EVs considering the history.  This really is historic.  Up until now, Federal incentives for EVs primarily applied to majors automakers.  I think you can apply for them in 2010, but they start taking effect immediately.  Also look into the part about the sales tax break for motorcycles which should apply to the Xebra.

Thanks.  How have you confirmed this?  The Feds offered a 10% tax credit before on electric cars, but few cars ever existed to take advantage. ZAP said they had representatives in the negotiations, but the real proof will be next year when people can submit their taxes and get the appropriate forms.  Other than reading the actual language of the law, I don't have any other indication, except from Plug-In America and a few other EV makers.  Listen to EVcast.com podcast with Jay Friedland.

It is a press release on the Zap website here, and there has also been an interview with the CEO about it.  I heard directly from Zap, they sent out the info to all the dealers saying it was official.  Let's hope they got it right this time :)
